    At the closure of the European Biomass Conference & Exhibition 2013 in Copenhagen, the Chairman concluded a.o. that there is a "need for standards to support market and trade". This science-oriented conference saw more and more focus on syngas production, algae processing and the development of biorefineries. The KBBPPS project was present at this event with a scientific poster and a lecture under the session on sustainability criteria and assessment.

    KBBPPS project concludes successful first advisory workshop. On 9 April 2013, the EU funded research project on bio-based product standards, KBBPPS, held a workshop in Cologne, Germany. Goal was to inform stakeholders about the project’s intentions and first activities and to gather advice on the 2½ years of research that lie ahead of the seven partners. The day was a success with lively discussions amongst 40 participants. Especially the valuable input from American and Thai experts helped immensely, leading to agreement to coordinate the development of test methods and also to use the project results for ASTM and international standards.

    An abstract of the KBBPPS functionality work has been accepted for a presentation at the 21st EUROPEAN BIOMASS CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION in June in Copenhagen. The title of the presentation is "Towards harmonised and research-based standards for the bio-based economy" and it mainly highlights the WP5 work.

    The EU-funded KBBPPS research project reviewed current biodegradation and ecotoxicity standards and found that there is good progress in standards development but significant gaps remain. The review is an important start to empowering the bio-based products' market and improving product information for consumers.
